Wikiloops Track – https://www.wikiloops.com/backingtrack-jam-209636.php
This is a one of my favorite Wikiloops songs that I got to create, over a drum template provided by Peter (PJE). It may be one of the most downloaded songs that I’ve been a part of, with the help of the infamous Ernie (Ernie440) on bass. The drum beat is classic Peter on the skins, thumping through the cadence with great changes. I’ve always had this intro riff, but was never able to create a song from it. It fit perfectly over Peter’s drums in the beginning, and with some RATM/Zep ideas, I was able to incorporate a few riff changes to string it all together. Ernie then came along and put the bass icing on the cake for a super groove!
Guitar Notes: I’m almost certain I used my Harley Benton SC-Custom Plus EMG guitar for this. It was fairly new at the time and those active EMG pickups just had me drooling a bit.
Artist Notes: I do jam a lot with many of the online musicians at Wikiloops, but you may see the names Ernie and Peter come up frequently. We tend to jam out and cross musical paths so to speak 🙂
A note about Wikiloops: For those not familiar with Wikiloops, the collaborations happen organically, they aren’t planned. There isn’t a discussion about who’s going to jam on what (although, as a member, you can create a “band” and do just that). For the most part, people upload “templates”, which could be a drum template, guitar template, etc. and others join in. Songs “build” as others join in, called a “remix”. Anyone can join in, you aren’t limited or excluded in any way from participating (unless the maximum amount of 6 remixes is reached). A track then takes shape as others add to it. If you’re lucky, someone will come along and add vocals, and voila, you have a complete song. Now, this doesn’t always happen, sometimes your template may sit without any adds. The good news is, the track stays online. You never know, someone may come along, weeks, month, years from now and add to it. For reference, Wikiloops is 11 years old, and has plenty of archived tracks to choose from for jamming.
